Lois Flounders

As Fisheries Analyst with OceanMind’s Intelligence and Compliance team, Lois applies satellite vessel tracking and remote sensing data to detect and assess potential IUU fishing activity, producing actionable intelligence that supports partners and enforcement agencies in protecting marine resources. She holds an MSc in Marine Conservation, where her research focused on strengthening conservation management measures (CMMs) for elasmobranchs in IOTC fisheries. Before joining OceanMind, Lois worked as a fisheries consultant across the seafood supply chain – from vessel monitoring and leading on-board observer work in UK trawl and dredge fisheries to processing and export in Pacific tuna fisheries. She has collaborated extensively with governments, NGOs, industry and intergovernmental organisations such as the World Bank and various RFMOs. Having seen first-hand how limited resources can challenge enforcement, Lois is driven to apply data and technology to strengthen compliance and ensure that fisheries regulations deliver real-world impact.

Jay Bryan

Being involved in fisheries since he was old enough to wear rubber boots, Jay brings a diversity of experience to his role as a Senior Fisheries Analyst at OceanMind. This includes working with his father as a commercial fisherman, university and industrial research in freshwater fisheries, extensive tracking of Atlantic salmon at sea and time as a Biologist with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Canada. This period in his life culminated with Jay receiving his MSc in Biology, focusing on Atlantic salmon life history modeling and examining the reasons for population collapse in Atlantic Canada, where he was nominated for the Governor General's Award for his thesis. Jay then worked for over a decade as a Project Manager for Archipelago, delivering electronic monitoring programs globally, while acting as their representative at many international fora. Having moved to Norway, Jay recently worked for TMT as a Senior Analyst supporting their team delivering MCS training and support from West Africa to the Indian Ocean. Jay now focuses on using AI and data solutions to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all by delivering capacity building and knowledge transfer to OceanMind's clients and partners globally. When he isn't working in the fisheries sector Jay can often be found out in his fishing boat relaxing and enjoying the Norwegian coastline.

Nick Charlton

Nick is a Senior Software Engineer at OceanMind. Nick's past experience has involved developing scalable end-to-end cloud solutions, managing cloud applications and integrating deployment processes. Using his past experience, Nick will be developing and managing cloud-based applications to better support OceanMind's team of analysts in extracting meaningful insights on ocean activity. Having been witness to illegal fishing and poaching in his home country, Nick is committed to using his technical knowledge for the better of our oceans. Added to that, he is drawn to the opportunity to work with a company that’s actively contributing to the protection of our oceans and committed to changing lives for the better.

Trevor Thomas

Trevor is Chief Data Scientist at OceanMind, leading the team that develops data analysis algorithms to support efforts to in protecting the world's seas and oceans. He holds a PhD in pattern matching and over 40 years of experience researching and developing novel time-domain pattern matching techniques for areas such as speech recognition and speaker verification. Trevor is delighted to have the opportunity to apply his expertise to interpreting and inferring vessel behaviour in such important areas as sustainable fishing, labour abuse, and global shipping

Tia Hobson

As OceanMind's Senior Fisheries Analyst, Tia provides monitoring support and supervision to the primary analyst team and carries out quality assurance and analysis across a range of programmes. Since joining OceanMind in 2018, she has developed specialist expertise in remote sensing and global fisheries monitoring. Tia works with governments and NGO partners in intelligence gathering and patrol support, Port State Measures Agreement implementation, and monitoring around heritage and protected sites. She brings extensive experience producing multi-year strategic risk and threat assessments across vast maritime areas, with a focus on IUU fishing threats and collision risk analysis. With a master’s degree in ichthyology and fisheries management from Rhodes University, Tia believes that research, analysis, and effective management are vital to ensuring the long-term sustainability of our marine resources.

Sam Wilson

Sam is a Software Engineer at OceanMind. In addition to his engineering qualifications, Sam has a history of volunteer and fundraising work in the conservation sector, with the scars to prove it. Swapping bites for bytes, Sam is delighted to put his software skills towards developing and maintaining the technology that enhances our understanding of human activity on the ocean, and empowers regulators to keep our seas safe and their use sustainable.

Roisin Guerin

Roisin is Chief Operations Officer at OceanMind, where she oversees and manages use of remote monitoring, artificial intelligence, and maritime expertise to empower stronger marine ecosystems and responsible fisheries efforts; enforcement of sanctions, treaties, and other activities; and support of improved corporate ESG, climate impact, and related performance in shipping and supply chains. With more than 25 years of technology transformation, operational, and project management experience, Roisin brings expert oversight to the introduction of new technology and team building to deliver change on a global scale. A proponent of “tech for good,” Roisin believes we should leverage our unique skills to build and protect the world we love.

Ricardo Antunes

As OceanMind's Principal Data Scientist, Ricardo is developing data analysis algorithms. After earning his first degree in marine biology and fisheries, he split his professional time between data analysis and conducting research at sea in locations around the world. Later, upon finishing a PhD focused on whale bioacoustics and social behaviour, Ricardo worked on a series of research projects studying the impact of human-made noise on marine mammals. He has since further honed his data analytics skills as a data scientist for various commercial and non-profit organisations, where he consistently applied statistical modelling, signal processing, and machine learning techniques to solve problems in wildlife conservation, renewable energy, and medical device technology. Now, Ricardo is excited about advancing data solutions to inform management and strategy for sustainable use of the ocean.
