Brett is a Data Scientist for OceanMind, working primarily on the ClimateTRACE project to model emissions from merchant vessels worldwide. He completed his PhD in experimental particle physics, applying machine learning techniques to analysing datasets from a neutrino particle detector. Given his longstanding interest in conservation and environmental issues, he jumped at the chance to apply the skills learnt during his PhD to help OceanMind monitor emissions from the global merchant fleet — with the shared goal of making emissions data open and transparent. Brett also has a passion for science communication and outreach, which he applies at OceanMind by helping create interesting, story-driven case studies highlighting emissions data.
