As OceanMind's Principal Data Scientist, Ricardo is developing data analysis algorithms. After earning his first degree in marine biology and fisheries, he split his professional time between data analysis and conducting research at sea in locations around the world. Later, upon finishing a PhD focused on whale bioacoustics and social behaviour, Ricardo worked on a series of research projects studying the impact of human-made noise on marine mammals. He has since further honed his data analytics skills as a data scientist for various commercial and non-profit organisations, where he consistently applied statistical modelling, signal processing, and machine learning techniques to solve problems in wildlife conservation, renewable energy, and medical device technology. Now, Ricardo is excited about advancing data solutions to inform management and strategy for sustainable use of the ocean.
